Job Description
Postdoctoral Fellowship Program
Morehouse Wide Initiative for Sustainable Energy/Scientific Weatherization, Education, Research, and
Training (M-WISE/SWERT)
Applications due as soon as possible
SWERT is dedicated to facilitating a comprehensive interaction and interdependency among an
interdisciplinary cadre of faculty, staff, field professionals, community stake-holders, and students.
And, SWERT is dedicated to fostering synthesis that brings together diverse forms of knowledge from
the social, behavioral, and natural sciences to generate insights into the behavior and management
of interlinked systems of people and nature with a focus on sustainable energy and underserved
communities.
The Scientific Weatherization, Education, Research, and Training (SWERT) component of the Morehouse
Wide Initiative for Sustainable Energy located on the campus of Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia
invites applications for a 2 year postdoctoral fellowship that begins January 2013. The Fellow will
undertake independent social, sustainability or environmental research projects that are consistent with
the mission of M-WISE/SWERT. In addition to leading independent research, the SWERT fellow spends
a portion of time (~30%) on collaborative center activities, which could include efforts such as working
with the energy club, coordinating activities with the local community related to weatherization and
energy usage attitudes and behaviors, training in weatherization techniques, and coordinating student
research activities.
The SWERT postdoctoral fellow will be based in our facilities in Atlanta, Georgia with the expectation
of spending time in the local communities, interfacing with energy providers, and other energy and
weatherization partners and stake-holders. SWERT offers substantial computational support for fellows
(supercomputer connections to Oak Ridge National Laboratories, BRIC/RCHD survey research and data
center) as well as a dynamic, collaborative learning environment. The postdoc will receive an annual
stipend, full Morehouse College employee benefits, and a small annual travel allowance for meetings.
ELIGIBILITY
We seek a postdoctoral fellow with sensitivity to the diverse communities in which the project is being
offered. The fellow will possess a Ph.D. in one of the social/behavioral sciences with demonstrable
interest in environment, environmental justice, sustainability and underserved communities. Areas
of previous research should be relevant to socio-environmental education, including statistics,
anthropology, sociology, computer science, ecology, planning, education, economics, geography,
history, mathematics, political science, , psychology, public policy, etc.
APPLICATION DEADLINE AND SUBMISSION PROCESS
The deadline for applications for this postdoctoral fellowship is rolling and will end as soon as a suitable candidate is found.
Applications will require a description of interests and ideas for collaborative center activities, a
description of how you would utilize undergraduates in the research activities of SWERT, CV, and
three letters of reference (submitted separately). For questions, please contact Dr. Michael Hodge
(mhodge@morehouse.edu) or Dr. Lycurgus Muldrow (lmuldrow@morehouse.edu).
