It looks like they moved fairly fast from the announcement date to the review of applications date. Anyone know anything about this position and the department?

They got late approval to hire because of a departing assistant professor. The dept. elected to mount a search this year (for fall 2013 start) instead of waiting for the 2014 fall cycle for fear that approval could get pulled. They want to take what they can get while they can. The ad says they want something with urban research interests, but they are defining urban very loosely. What they really need is someone who can teach the required grad/undergrad methods and stats and/or theory classes. They are also badly in need of people who do research in health, environment, and crime/deviance.

Do you think it's to late to submit an application?

Not at all. The faculty just saw the ad this week. It has just started going out over listservs. You probably have a couple of weeks.
