I know that location desirability varies by ones individual interests, but I was curious to see for those who have moved around in recent years: what are the best or worst places to live and why? You don't necessarily have to throw a specific city or town under the bus but maybe states or general areas? Just curious!
I moved to Florida for a TT position at a large regional somewhat research oriented job and everyone was so jealous that I was moving to sunny Florida. I hate it. I'm leaving in the summer. Probably the worst place I've ever lived. It's a cultural vacuum lacking any identity, history, or local connection.

The only thing worse than chlamydia is Florida.

Florida is pretty awful but nothing was worse than living in a square state in the middle of the country. I took a TT job in Nebraska and stayed 1 year. It was the worst ever. I could t do anything but work. Nothing stayed opene passed 9pm. Everything closed on Sundays. There was literally nothing to do within a 2 hour radius. We had a Wal Mart which I refused to go to but at least it was open past 9 and even on Sundays.
I'm now in NH and loving life! Finally!
