Job Summary: The Department of Sociology at Central Washington University invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor position to begin September 16, 2013. The position is located at the Ellensburg Campus. We seek a broadly trained sociologist to teach courses for our online majors and minors in Sociology, contribute to general education courses, and service course work to other programs. Preferred areas of specialization within sociology are media and identity formation, gender, and social inequality. The teaching load is 36 credit hours over three quarters (2-3 courses per quarter). Other responsibilities include scholarship activity, student advising, internship supervision, and service to campus and community. Required Qualifications: -Ph.D. in Sociology required at the time of appointment -Evidence of effective teaching at the university level -Evidence of scholarship activity -Evidence of effective online instruction Preferred Qualifications: -Academic background and expertise to offer courses in one or more of the following areas: 1) media and society, 2) gender, 3) social inequality. "2-3 courses per quarter"? At 4 credits a course, this comes out to EXACTLY 3 classes per quarter.

Sometimes methods classes have 1 credit labs, which could make a methods class a 4+1 credit class. If you taught methods all three terms, you'd have one two course term.
