Not related to talks, but definitely examples of bad behavior during the search process.
1) The search committee chair who took a cell phone call in the middle of our interview at ASA. Nice one! Actually, I was fine with that -- the "interview" consisted of the chair prattling on and on about the department without asking me a single question. At the two-minute bell, I finally asked if s/he would care to hear a little about my teaching or research.
2) I did a phone interview with a search committee and landed a publication a few days later. I sent the search committee chair an updated CV and in responding, s/he mentioned that s/he had not been present during my phoner with the search committee. No worries, you're just the chair of the search committee, after all. No need to be there during the interviews or anything.
In the end, I landed a job and sure am glad it wasn't at one of these places! If this is what these folks are like on their "good" behavior, I cannot imagine what it would be like to have them as colleagues.
I also got a rejection letter with the salutation, "Dear First Name Last Name," followed by the usual spiel about how great they thought my application materials were. That one didn't bother me too much, but it was pretty funny.

I wouldn't consider any of those to be "bad behavior." The first is possibly bad form, but the ASA "interviews" are a joke and really only serve as a way to advertise positions and increase the applicant pool at low-ranked schools...plus sociologists are awkward. The second one...geez..get over yourself...people have, you know, multiple responsibilities.
If that's what you think bad departmental behavior is, you're in for a major awakening at your new job! Good luck.

1. Interviewed at an Ivy, was told by several people during my interview that the search was a sham. There was an internal candidate who had a better record and whose spouse was tenured in another department and in the middle of negotiating to stay/leave. Was told that I was only brought in to legitimize the search for the dean and that I had no shot.
2. During a 1-on-1 with a faculty member I began to notice and overwhelming stench of poo. At first I thought the old dude had just farted. When we parted ways it was clear they had shit himself.
3. Interviewed for a Job that was a joint appointment in soc and a research center on campus. Woke up to an email the morning I was to fly for the interview that was to give two completely different job talks in one day. Had to put together a whole second talk on the plane. Gave the second talk and was repeatedly interrupted by a bunch of douche economists who kept asking pointless questions that were not even germane to the talk. Didn't get the job. Found out later I was the only candidate who gave two talks.
4. Was asked point blank by a female dean/sociologist/gender scholar if I was married and what my spouse did.
5. Had a faculty member who was not on the committee say to me that "we all know you are getting an offer. the question is what it will take to get you here." he then attempted to negotiate a job offer that he was in no position to offer or negotiate.
6. During my visit had an exit interview with a department chair where I was offered the job. Then had to go out to dinner with the search committee where it was clear they were not aware of the offer. Awkward!
