The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at West Virginia University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor in Criminology. Visiting appointments at WVU are renewable for a maximum of three years contingent upon continuing need; this is a sabbatical leave replacement beginning August 16, 2013 for an anticipated duration of one academic year. We are seeking candidates who can contribute multiple core courses in the criminology curriculum, including criminology, the criminal justice system, sociology of law, policing, and/or punishment. The ability to teach other criminology courses is desirable. Applicants should have received the Ph.D. in sociology, criminology, cultural anthropology, or a closely related field by the start date. Evidence of effective teaching skills, including large as well as smaller enrollment courses, is required. Those interested should send a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, evidence of effective teaching including teaching philosophy, syllabi, and teaching evaluations, and three letters of recommendation to: Dr. Amy Hirshman, Search Committee Chair, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, West Virginia University, 307 Knapp Hall, P.O. Box 6326, Morgantown, WV 26506-6326. Questions may be directed to Dr. Corey Colyer, Department Chair (304/293-8174; Corey.Colyer@mail.wvu.edu). Review of applications will begin on April 5 and continue until the position is filled.
