FULL-TIME SOCIOLOGY INSTRUCTOR
SOCIAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
RESPONSIBILITIES: SMCC is seeking applicants for a full-time faculty position to teach sociology. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of the ability to teach introductory and 200 level sociology courses. Course assignments may include Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Research Methods, Marriage and Family, and Race & Ethnicity. and/or other courses to students in the Sociology program, as well as non-majors. Duties include teach 15 credit hours or the equivalent each semester; develop, modify, and assess the effectiveness of curricula; continuous improvement in teaching methodology and student centered learning; stay current in field; advise and maintain scheduled availability to students; participate with other faculty in developing and managing online and face to face courses, curricula and academic policy; participate in department/college activities; committee work, and college service, particularly activities that will enhance the academic life of the college, and other professional duties related to the position; and contribute to the success of the college.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•Master's degree in Sociology or a related field
•College teaching experience
•Experience with assessment
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
•Doctoral degree in Sociology or related field
•Ability to teach in a complementary discipline
•3 years community college teaching experience
PROJECTED START DATE: August 19, 2013
SALARY RANGE: $43,000 - $50,000
