Assistant Professor of Sociology
Department: Natural and Social Sciences/Sociology
The Sociology Program at Purchase College invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the Assistant Professor level, beginning fall 2013. We seek candidates with research expertise in an aspect of globalization (Latin American or African Studies would be ideal), and social movements/social action. The Sociology program at Purchase is a dynamic, action-oriented program that offers students opportunities to creatively engage with social, cultural, health, and civic organizations through internships and creative projects.
Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate potential for interdisciplinary collaboration with colleagues in the arts and the liberal arts. Scholars who use mixed methods, innovative methodologies, participatory action research on the community level using student research assistants are encouraged to apply. The College is committed to student-centered instruction that integrates curricular, learning community, and service learning activities.
Excellence in teaching with a strong commitment to contributing to the Sociology core courses and the potential to maintain an active research program are essential. A PhD degree in Sociology by August 2013 is required. Salary will be $53,000.
