The successful candidate will have a PhD in Sociology or a cognate discipline. S/he will be expected to contribute significantly to the research output and teaching programmes of the Department in the broad areas of gender and race, notably the MPhil in Race, Ethnicity and Conflict. With the retirement of staff members, the Department also needs to ensure core teaching of general sociology as well as sociology of gender at undergraduate level.
Applications from all theoretical and methodological traditions related to gender and race are welcome. The appointee, who will preferably engage in wider public and policy debates, will require competence in teaching some or all of: theoretical and empirical aspects of gender and race; intersections of gender and race at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Additional expertise in culture may be advantageous.
