Are they serious about qualification #2?
Primary teaching requirements include the following: Introduction to Sociology, Human Relations, Social Problems, Deviant Behavior, Self and Society, Domestic Violence, and Research Methods. Duties also include student advising, contribution to student growth and development, committee assignments, evaluating student performance, program assessment, scholarly activities and service to the University and community. SMSU, in its commitment to meeting the service needs of the region, expects faculty to engage in regional service, education or study as part of their community service responsibilities.
Qualifications:
•Ph.D. in Sociology
•Three years of PreK-12 teaching experience, and teaching licensure are all required
•Strong commitment and experience in teaching undergraduate Sociology is essential.
•Broadly trained sociologist with expertise in Education, Populations, and Family Violence,
•Demonstrated excellence in teaching
Other Considerations:
Demonstrated abilities/competence in instructional technology, including online instruction and commitment to interdisciplinary education is preferred. Must have an understanding of and appreciation for liberal education.

*NINE-MONTH FACULTY APPOINTMENTS - Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota Colleges and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months. The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years. Initial faculty appointments at SMSU are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
