Anyone heard anything from this university yet? Rejection letters? Anything? Feels like application went into a black hole.

A previous post notes that Florida State intends to begin interviewing in October. I received a letter from the University of Delaware offering the same anticipated timeline for interviews to begin--October. It should be getting interesting around here pretty soon.

Delaware? I thought they weren't even reviewing applications until the beginning of October?

Departments often begin reviewing applications before the deadline, and every year at least a few schools start scheduling interviews early. It sucks, but just try to get your materials in early.

It's a great feeling to get stuff in early - that's more off your list, freeing you up later when more ads come out.

A few schools have already contacted my references for more information, both in cases where applications required only a list of references and where letters were required.
I think this "Status of Searches/Hires" board is going to start heating up really soon.

Please update the wiki (http://socjobs.wikidot.com/2011-2012-job-cycle) with that information!

^ I like this site a lot better, and I have more things to do than update the wiki. I wonder how many people are lazy like me and can't be bothered to meticulously update other websites.

I personally agree that this board is more fun to contribute to, but, as the cycle gets going, the most useful information has shown up on the wiki. Last year people were asking for all information about searches moving forward to also go into the wiki, probably because many applicants don't regularly read through these threads, and there's a lower barrier to checking in on the information in a list. As the cycle gets going, having that information helps all of us make better decisions. Would others agree?
