Anyone have anything to offer about this journal? Reputation, or review process? Turn-around time?

I had mostly good experiences with them. Craig Forsyth is the editor but some of your correspondence might be with his grad assistant. I suppose that's the case with any journal though.

Forgot to mention...turn-around was about 3 months one time and a bit longer another time (I had to contact the editor; he was waiting on a reviewer). In terms of "reputation," it just depends on whether you think the sociology of deviance is truly dead. For most CJ folk, a pub with Deviant Behavior is worth next to nothing. For criminologists and generalists in sociology, it's a hit or miss. This of course is all based on my own anecdotal experiences though. My advisor is a "big name" in criminology/sociology, and he and several of his "big name" friends at ASC dig deviance. Many of the other journals don't cite works from this area so Deviant Behavior is a good journal to publish in if deviance is your thing. If you are thinking about publishing in the journal though, I suspect you already know a bit about this debate.

Hi "good"
Yes, I am familiar with the deviance debate. Thank you for your feedback. Do you remember how many reviewers were assigned to your journal articles?

Three reviewers both times, but one of the times, only two responded.

Deviant Behavior is a good and established journal. The articles are solid, and equally important, they are interesting.
When I submitted, I waited a mere 8 weeks to R & R. When I resubmitted my revised piece, it took only a couple weeks to be accepted. I don't know if that is customary, but in my experience, the journal folks at DB--reviewers, editors-- have their s*** together.

Took less than 6 weeks to hear back with an R & R. Letter arrived by snail mail, which was amusing, but you can't beat that. 2 reviews are clear and make sense. I agree with above poster--the journal folks over at DB have their stuff together, so far as I can see.

I had a wonderful experience with Deviant Behavior. We submitted a paper at the end of July and got a Revise (very minor) and Resubmit in November. We made some revisions and resubmitted at the end of November, and the paper was accepted mid-December. The initial review time includes snail mail shipping time for both the submission and the decision letter.
The reviews were generally positive, very clear, and actually pretty helpful.
We were impressed with Deviant Behavior.
