after hearing the talk of ASA being very competitive this year, i am wondering if folks are submitting to SSSP. it seems like a good way to get a presentation out of the trip & get on a program of a conference.
have you been/submitted to SSSP before? was it a good experience?
thanks!

I've done SSSP for a couple of years now, and I think it's a mixed bag. But it's also an easy organization to get involved with, organize sessions, and so forth. My advice is to go for it.

i chose to submit to SSSP instead of ASA last year (for several reasons, one of which is that ASA can be dreadfully boring and uncritical), and i preferred the experience of SSSP. (i had presented at ASA the previous 3 years.) SSSP was a bit more casual, there was more camaraderie, and the people i presented with were great. (yeah, it's a mixed bag, but so is ASA.) i'm sticking with SSSP again this year.

I presented at SSSP a couple years ago. The session wasn't as well attended as my ASA session, but I found the environment more supportive and collegial (and less elitist). I went to their dinner/banquet and I never remember feeling so welcomed. Made some great connections to other people who don't care for the elitist and hierarchical nature of the ASA meetings.
And, yes, i found the research to be slightly more critical at SSSP.

thanks to everyone for your responses! it seems that sssp is the way to go. also i have found the elitism at asa stiffing and people sometimes hard to engage with. i will go ahead and submit..
