Lewis University, located 25 miles SW of Chicago, invites applications and nominations for the Assistant Professor, Sociology position vacancy. Lewis University’s Department of Sociology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant or associate rank. We are a small department within a growing mid-sized Catholic liberal arts university in the Chicagoland area. As a department, we have a commitment to a focus on diversity, social justice, inequalities, and the intersections of systems such as race, class and gender. The candidate will help strengthen our general sociological curriculum, efforts in social justice and applied sociology, and contribute to initiatives encouraging student research. The ideal candidate is one who specializes in teaching sociological research methods. In addition, we are interested in scholars who have facility in teaching introductory sociology courses as well as who could teach and develop courses in one or more of the following areas: applied sociology, criminology, deviance, organizations, work, social services, or immigration.
A PhD is required by time of appointment. There is a teaching load of 12 credit hours per semester. Additionally, all faculty have responsibilities that include advising, curriculum development, and other service to the department, college, and university. Candidates are responsible for modeling the University Mission through dedicated job performance, excellent service to various constituencies, respectful collaboration, and active support of the University’s Mission in Catholic and Lasallian higher education. We offer a salary that is competitive and commensurate with experience.
