RESPONSIBILITIES:
• The candidate will teach four sections each year of Introduction to Sociology (SOC 150) and/or Introduction to Gerontology, two sections each semester of Sociology of Aging (SOC450), Sociology of Dying and Death (Soc 440), Sociology of Health and Illness (SOC 434), and Sociology of Disabilities (SOC 439).
• The candidate will participate in department and university committees, as appropriate.
• The candidate will engage in academic advising.
• The candidate will engage in scholarly research.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• This position requires a PhD in Sociology at the time of hire
• This position requires a demonstrated interest in gerontology, as evidenced by any of the following: a) Experience teaching gerontology, b) Publications within the discipline of gerontology, c) Conference presentation within the discipline of gerontology, d) Doctoral concentration in gerontology, and/or e) Three or more semesters of graduate level gerontology coursework.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• The candidate should have: a) Relevant teaching experience at the college level, including experience teaching social theory; b) Quality graduate coursework, c) Research experience, and d) Relevant academic and/or professional experience.
• The candidate should possess: a) Leadership abilities, b) Effective communication skills, c) Experience working with classroom technology, and d) Innovative teaching methods.
The applicant should demonstrate a knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.
