"I'm not sure he knows I'm posting this, but WTH..." suggests that he's not comfortable with you sharing or that it's not public knowledge yet. If either of those things are true, for the last time people, DON'T OUT PEOPLE ON THESE BOARDS.
This should be a space to congratulate folks, not just to satisfy people's hyper-curiosity. All of this will become public eventually; there's no need to rush the process before it's official or folks are ready to announce.

Jesus Christ.... mellow the hell out. Obviously one of his friends/colleagues is excited for him. Save the righteous indignation for something larger.

I agree with really.
His friends can be as happy for him as they want, but if they don't have his permission to talk about his job or have a sense that he's telling people, they shouldn't post it here.
For a personal example for why this might matter: I was an internal candidate for a (non-sociology) job and the department was really excited about my candidacy, but decided to accept a (non-sociology) job somewhere else. I told my friends I took the outside job, but I wanted to sit down personally with those folks because I still wanted to work with some of the folks in the future and am currently working with someone there now. I would have been mad if one of my loudmouth friends outed me before I got to them--I want to leave my current institution on a positive note.
