The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Sociology which will commence August 15, 2013, subject to final budgetary approval at the rank of Assistant Professor. Priority will be given to entry level candidates.
The Department currently offers a baccalaureate degree program with a major and a minor in both Sociology and Anthropology, as well as honours programs in each discipline.
Since opening in 1910, Mount Royal has embraced change in order to meet the needs of the people and community it serves. At Mount Royal students experience high quality education enhanced by smaller class sizes, personalized learning and a single-minded dedication to premier undergraduate learning. Mount Royal is known for its collegial working environment. Mount Royal is located in beautiful Calgary, Alberta, with a population of 1.1 million residents and an hour drive from the majestic Rocky Mountains.
We welcome applications from any substantive area of expertise, but candidates should be able to contribute to our core course offerings in methods and/or theory, particularly qualitative methods and/or contemporary social theory. The successful candidate will also incorporate a social justice perspective into her or his teaching and/or research. Faculty members are expected to be strong teachers, to develop and deliver courses in their areas of expertise, and to contribute to the department.
New faculty members are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/scholarship/service pattern has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/service pattern has a focus on teaching and service only. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure. A candidate should indicate their desired work pattern in their letter of interest. There is an opportunity to change patterns after tenure. Applicants interested in the teaching/scholarship/service pattern should have the ability and intent to pursue a research program.
A Ph. D. (or Ph.D. near completion) in sociology is preferred; a Master’s degree is required.
