Went on a campus interview in the middle of October and was told the timeline for initial offers was basically right now through next week for this particular job. And they were particularly fast movers.

I know of a few other offers, but I think it's too early for most people to feel comfortable sharing publicly, even via an anonymous source. It is often pretty obvious who's sharing in situations like these, and until there is a written offer, negotiations are very delicate. Plus people might have offers but also have remaining interviews, which can be sensitive.
In other words, I think we need to wait a little longer for people to share info about offers.

just a general question: do you usually negotiate BEFORE the offer is in writing? or do you first get a first-round offer in writing, then negotiate?
security check: first post! (no lie)

Good question. Start a new thread in the "Misc questions" thread and I'll answer from the perspective of a SC member

Anything else out there that would ease the minds of those waiting?

I know of a few offers but don't feel comfortable disclosing other peoples offers - seems different than interviews. Also, my grad department has made an offer in their open position but if that person turns it down, we will offer it to the second choice - so again, i don't want to disclose that we have made an offer. Sorry if this isn't helpful but I suspect this is why other people are also unwilling to share.

It's safer to share once offers have been accepted.
