Just wondering to what extent search committees look at student webpages. Not facebook or anything, but their actual professional page. I realize this will vary by institution and student, but I am hoping for some kind of estimate from anyone who served on a search committee last year.

I've never been on a search committee but I can say that every school I have an interview with at ASA has checked my website. Some pretty extensively. I think it is pretty common practice for those who make the short list.

Having been on 3 search committees as an assistant professor I can say I never once went to someone's website. However, when I was on the market I put one up. I doubt it's worth the effort. FB etc. is fair game so be careful what you post.
