What are people's experiences with AJS? I've always heard they have super long wait times. Still true?

Actually I have had several colleagues who submitted there recently, and all have heard back in less than 4 months (some got R&Rs, others rejections, the time didn't seem to depend on the result). I had an experience 2 years ago where it took 7 months for me to hear back, so my anecdotal evidence says things are improving.

6 months for an initial decision (r&r) and 6 months for the next decision (conditional acceptance)

So when do you contact them to ask what's up?
Got an R&R, revision with them 3 months.

Took 6 months for my decision (R&R), but apparently they had to scramble to replace the third reviewer after 4 months. They emailed me without prompting and were apologetic about it. So it seems like they were certainly aiming for four months. We'll see what the time is on the revision.

Some information on review time at AJS shared at ASA: median time to decision for papers sent out for review is 4 months; 90th percentile time to decision is 6.7 months.

Is something up at AJS? I'm hearing about exceptionally long decision times; even after conditional acceptance.

It is long - almost two years since initial submission and still waiting to hear a final decision (about 8 months were R&R)

To poster above me,
I assume you are stuck in multiple R&R hell. How long did it take to get first R&R on your piece?

I recently got an R&R from AJS. It took about 3 and 1/2 months to hear back. Much faster than I expected.

To "how long"... actually nope. I've been stuck at "conditional accept" for six months now. Only one R&R (received after an initial 6-7 month review). Some of the delay is on my end as I took 6-8 months completing two very careful revisions--one after the R&R and one after the conditional acceptance. I just never expected to be stuck this long after a conditional acceptance. Worried.

When I had a conditional acceptance and had not heard in awhile I contacted them and was told, yes, the paper has been accepted. We only contact the author of a conditional accept if there's a problem with the revised draft. Perhaps your paper has been accepted?

Yep...have been deflected each time, with no followup. Seven months now.
