Email this morning:
"Thank you for your interest in a faculty position in the Department of Sociology at Cornell University. I write, as Chair of the search committee, with some information on our search process.
First Steps
By the end of today, we will likely have received approximately 250 applications. The search committee will read all files and, over the course of the next few months, forward names on to the full department (typically in batches of 5 to 8 names) for their consideration. All decisions on campus visits are then made by the full department, after all members of the department have read the applicants’ materials.
Timeline
The hiring process will roll throughout the year. Last year, some offers were extended in early December and our final offers were extended in early spring. We consider all applicants prospective hires until the day the dean informs us that we are not permitted to make any additional offers."
