The University of Michigan Womens Studies Department invites applications at the assistant professor level with a focus on gender and health. This tenure track position has an expected start date of September 1, 2012 and is a 9-month (university year) appointment. Womens Studies is a department within the University Of Michigans College Of Literature, Science and the Arts. Gender and Health is one of six interdisciplinary rubrics that loosely organize our departments scholarly activities. Faculty in this area study health-related topics from a range of disciplinary perspectives, including nursing, medicine, sociology, anthropology, and political science. The ideal candidate will add to existing areas of strength using theoretical approaches grounded in feminist, queer, trans, intersectionality, and/or transnational frameworks. Depending on the candidates disciplinary training, a joint appointment with another department may be possible. We seek candidates who demonstrate outstanding research and scholarly contributions and who can contribute to our vibrant interdisciplinary community.
Ability to teach Womens Studies courses (such as Perspectives in Womens Health, Mens Health, or Feminist Thought), and to develop new courses related to gender and health are highly desirable.
