Assistant Professor of Sociology, Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Otterbein University, a comprehensive liberal arts institution in the suburban Columbus area, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track assistant professor position beginning August 2013. Responsibilities: teaching diverse and talented students in a six course load, distributed over a two-term academic year with an accelerated mini-semester currently offered in January. We seek a sociologist with specialization in human and community services, stratification, and applied sociology who will provide leadership in our new major concentration in Human and Community Services (HACS) and who will both design and teach courses in both our Gender and Family Studies concentration and in the university Integrative Studies program. Other areas of expertise are open; possible areas of interest include inequality and poverty, public policy, or life course studies, and the sociology of family and gender, with emphasis in the United States or North American context. There is a one-course reduction for each of the first two years in exchange for participating in new faculty mentoring programs. Qualifications: Ph.D. in sociology with demonstrated excellence in teaching, strong scholarship and a coherent research agenda as well as a commitment to a broad-based liberal arts education. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with general education, service learning and innovative pedagogies (blended, online, accelerated terms) as well as experience building partnerships with community organizations.
