Looking at the wiki, it appears that they had scheduled phone and fly out interviews for this position, but there is a new posting this week for two positions at UW - La Crosse. The new ad indicates that one is a new position and the other a replacement, so I'm more curious about the new position. Does anyone know the story behind this? Did they have a failed initial search? Did they have another new line open up? Something else? Any inside information would be appreciated.

It is my understanding that these searches are completely different from the two they posted in the Fall

There was a successful double search this past fall, and a second double search going on now. The ad posted at the beginning of this thread was for the double search this fall. There is a new posting for the current search with different areas of specialization open. Four new assistant professor hires total for next fall.

Did some of their assistant professors jump ship? Why are they hiring so many this year?

Not at all. Retirements and monies made available for new lines. No assistant professors have ever jumped ship to my knowledge. Good sign.
