The Department of Sociology at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor or tenured associate professor position specializing in advanced statistics and quantitative methods beginning in the Fall 2013 term. The candidate’s broader substantive research interests are open, but preference will be given to candidates with an active research program in areas that complement existing department strengths in aging and the life course, family, law and society, urban sociology, social inequalities, or work and organizations. We are especially interested in candidates interested in health, broadly construed. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic about teaching graduate courses in advanced statistical techniques, teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring graduate students, and providing service at the Departmental & University levels. Applicants at the associate level must show a strong record of publication and grant funding; applicants at the assistant level must show strong potential in these areas. Candidates must have a PhD in Sociology at the time of appointment.
Interested applicants should submit cover letter, 3 letters of reference which we will request using the e-mail addresses provided, CV, and one writing sample via the University at Buffalo’s online system at www.UBJobs.buffalo.edu under posting #1200456 (or directly at www.ubjobs.buffalo.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=55356). Inquiries should be sent to Robert Wagmiller, Jr., Quantitative Methods Search Committee Chair, Department of Sociology, 430 Park Hall, University at Buffalo, Buffalo, NY 14260 (or rw26@buffalo.edu). Review of dossiers will begin September 10 and the search will continue until the position is filled.
The Department of Sociology has a research-active faculty, approximately 60 Master’s and PhD students, and requires a 2/2 teaching load. Cross disciplinary research opportunities are facilitated by close ties with faculty at the rapidly growing medical campus and Schools of Law, Public Health, Management, Nursing, Architecture and Planning, Engineering, and Social Work. Interdisciplinary research institutes, such as the Research Institute on Addictions and the Baldy Center for Law and Social Policy, offer additional opportunities for research collaborations. University at Buffalo is a member of the American Association of Universities and has approximately 19,000 undergraduate and 10,000 graduate and professional students.
The University at Buffalo is an equal opportunity employer/recruiter. The Department of Sociology is interested in identifying minority and women candidates and individuals with disabilities. Qualified individuals with a disability may request needed, reasonable accommodations to participate in the application process. No person, in whatever relationship with the University at Buffalo, will be subject to discrimination on the basis of age, creed, color, disability, national origin, race, religion, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, or marital or veteran status.
