The Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice at Villanova University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with a specialty in the sociology of crime and deviance to begin in August 2013. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in sociology by the time of appointment. However, a Ph.D. in a closely related discipline may suffice if there is a clear and strong sociological emphasis in the candidate’s record. The successful candidate’s primary teaching responsibility will be in the criminal justice program, although he or she should be able to teach general sociology courses if needed. Applications must include an application letter, CV, writing sample, evidence of teaching effectiveness, graduate transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. All material must be submitted online at jobs.villanova.edu. Review of applications begins October 15, 2012 and continues until the position is filled. Villanova is a Catholic university sponsored by the Augustinian Order located in the culturally diverse Philadelphia metropolitan area. An AA/EEO employer, Villanova seeks a diverse faculty committed to scholarship, service, and excellent teaching who understand and support the University’s mission, especially in regard to community service and social justice.
