Associate Director-Fixed Term for 4 Years

The Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality (CPI), one of three National Poverty Centers, is a nonpartisan research center dedicated to monitoring trends in poverty and inequality, explaining what’s driving those trends, and developing science-based policy on poverty and inequality. The CPI supports research by new and established scholars, trains the next generation of scholars and policy analysts, and disseminates the very best research on poverty and inequality.
The CPI seeks a research administrator with strong leadership skills to serve as Associate Director and the lead academic research and program officer. The Associate Director will work cooperatively with the Center’s Director to oversee and lead all of Center’s research and training activities.
The Associate Director’s primary responsibilities fall into three categories:
1. Operational and Financial Management
• Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Center, including management of staff, faculty research group leaders, graduate students, undergraduate students, and volunteers.
• Oversight of the Center’s finances, including budget planning and management.
• Oversight of human resources, including recruiting and hiring Center staff, visitors, and postdoctoral scholars.
2. Financial Planning and Funding Strategy
• In partnership with the Center’s Director, identify and pursue funding opportunities with prospective donors.
• Identify and develop strategies for securing support from public and private foundations and other potential institutional partners. Coordinate the Center’s funding plans with the University’s foundations staff. Manage key institutional funder relationships.
• Oversee grant writing and reporting requirements to foundation sponsors and coordinate grants administration with IRiSS staff.
3. Undergraduate Programming
• Oversee undergraduate program by assisting with student mentoring and ensuring that course offerings are adequate.
• Identify appropriate internship opportunities for Center students in undergraduate program.
Experience: The Associate Director position requires a doctoral-level understanding of poverty and inequality, with possible strengths in economics, sociology, and public policy. Especially essential are skills in project and grant management and overseeing the research of graduate and undergraduate students.
This is a fixed term position for 4 years.
