I would be very, very careful with this position, having interviewed there recently for a job in another department. The school is teetering on the edge of financial collapse (the faculty/students all went on strike last November) and it is at the very bottom of the ranks of the struggling CSU system. I have never seen such low morale across the board from faculty to admin. Plus their Dean keeps changing. Everyone I talked to who teaches there does so purely for geographical location, and not because of any sense of professional gratification. So just be forewarned.

Faculty and students who are willing to go on strike? Teaching less than a 4-4 teaching load? Low morale (as opposed to non-existent morale)? In the Bay Area? Hell yeah... sign me up! Compared to half the community colleges and state universities--that most sociologists teach at in the US--this is a diamond in the rough.

No, it's not a 4-4 load. It's a 3-3-3 (quarter system), which, when you break down the time it takes to set up a class and grade all those extra assignments and exams, is much more work than a 4-4.

Some people always gotta be haters... A job this year is gonna be hard to score for 80-90% of those on the market. To whomever gets this one: congrats!

Settle down. Nobody's hating. Heads up was just sharing a bit of information. Nobody would take that piece of information as reason to not apply. We all do our homework, though, and this helps. It's actually one of the best things about these threads.
Heads up wasn't saying, "Don't take the job." S/he was just urging caution. That seems reasonable.
