I came across a research position at the University of Delaware that may be of interest to some graduate students with a statistics, education and/or evaluation specialty in sociology.
Senior Research Analyst
The Center for Teaching & Assessment of Learning (CTAL) works closely with all members of UD's teaching community in enriching the teaching, learning, and educational assessment process. CTAL focuses on two main missions: (1) support faculty, administrators, graduate students, and staff in their instructional activities; and (2) assess how well undergraduate students attain the UD General Education goals and to support academic units in assessing undergraduate and graduate student learning outcomes. Under limited supervision, the Senior Research Analyst performs a full range of research-related tasks to inform and support the assessment of student learning on campus. The Senior Research Analyst supports the creation of data collection tools, conducts data analyses and collaborates on writing reports with actionable findings for assessment purposes. The Senior Research Analyst consults with academic units on best practices and processes of meaningful student learning assessment on campus. The position reports directly to the director of educational assessment within CTAL.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● With little direction, engage in basic and complex analysis of data (quantitative and qualitative) using SPSS and Excel and write reports to communicate findings that would be used by academic units to set policy.
● Apply appropriate statistical principles to analyze and report data based upon research design.
● Create and implement web-based and non-web-based surveys and conduct analysis which have policy implications for academic programs.
● Prepare reports concerning planning benchmarks and keep program officers appraised of compliance with internal/external assessment mandates from the regional and professional accreditation bodies.
● Prepare reports based upon data analysis for distribution to stakeholders throughout the university.
● Assist in the development of institutional assessment plans (general education, academic program assessment, professional programs assessment) and implementation for Middle States Accreditation Review. Exercise autonomous judgment in methodology selection to conduct assessment research that impacts the administration of academic programs.
● Consult with stakeholders in departments and programs throughout the university and assist in the development of methodologies to interpret and draft reports on assessment data.
● Support the development of external grant applications that pertain to student learning and support assessment research across the campus.
● Provide faculty development sessions and consultations to support both course and program-level assessments.
● Meet regularly and intermittently with representatives from programs and departments to review the status of assessments and offer guidance on managing this process.
● Assist and support the grants with an educational assessment component
● Support teaching-focused mission of CTAL by collaborating with CTAL staff to advance quality teaching, learning and assessment efforts and initiatives on campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
● A minimum of a Master’s degree in sociology, social-psychology or evaluation research is required.
● Three years of increasingly responsible professional experience in analysis of quantitative data and/or qualitative data collection and analysis.
● Experience in a higher education administration function.
● Strong oral and written communication skills that support daily tasks associated with assessment and the ability to independently consult with representatives of academic programs and departments throughout the university.
