Gainesville State College (located in Gainesville, GA (45m N of Atlanta) is hiring for the following tenure-track position in our Human Services Delivery and Administration (HSDA) Program beginning January 2013: www.gsc.edu/about/employment/POSITION%20OPENINGS%20AT%20GSC/Human%20Services%20Delivery%20and%20Administration%20(HSDA)%20Faculty%20Position,%20Tenure%20Track%20-%20Gainesville%20Campus.pdf HSDA is an interdisciplinary, applied BA program that is growing rapidly. Applicants must have a PhD in an academic field (Sociology or Psychology preferred, but other fields will be considered) and have experience providing direct services. This is not a job for someone who is looking for a high-power, prestigious position. GSC is a teaching oriented institution and the pay and teaching load (classes are strictly capped at 28) reflect that focus. However, you will gain a strong work-life balance, supportive colleagues, and the opportunity to grow with a dynamic institution that will soon be the University of North Georgia (the result of a consolidation between North Georgia College and State University and Gainesville State College). The consolidated institution will be in place at the time of appointment. It is completely possible to live in Atlanta, which provides greater cultural and economic opportunities. The commute from ITP (Inside the Perimeter) is 30-45m. The application deadline is August 30th.

Gotta appreciate the honesty and bluntness. Very cool ad.

I don't know about this ad. It makes me suspicious.
It's sort of like online dating profiles--when someone tries so hard to make their ad look cute but leaves out important details (like, what's the actual teaching load at this hallowed place of teaching?), I start to think they're hiding something. Like you're going to show up to their apartment and there's dead kittens in the freezer or something. So, I'd be nervous about applying to this place in fear I'd take the job and then see the academic equivalent of FluffyPopsicles.

The interview process is a great opportunity to find out about the required teaching load and etc. Remember, they're not just interviewing us, we're interviewing them. If you're not sure it's a good fit for you, don't apply, or don't accept the offer.
