UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-LA CROSSE: Searching for two energetic and dynamic faculty members to join a vibrant and diverse Department of Sociology/Archaeology. We invite applications for two full time academic year tenure track, Assistant Professors of Sociology. One position may begin either in January 2012 or August 27, 2012. The second position will begin in August 27, 2012. We seek applications from individuals who hold a Ph.D. in Sociology by time of appointment. The successful candidate must express their dedication to high quality undergraduate education. Areas of expertise are open; however, preference will be given to candidates who can teach in areas that are complementary to the expertise of our current faculty. Such areas might include race and ethnicity, sociological foundations, organizational sociology/labor studies, sociology of education, environmental sociology, aging, program evaluation or risk analysis. Candidates who have experience with a variety of teaching methods, have knowledge of or experience working with culturally diverse groups, have the potential to obtain research funding and have a strong desire to incorporate undergraduate students in their research activities are preferred. Faculty at UW-L teach 12 hours (4 courses/3 preparations) per semester. The Sociology Program at UW-L is part of the Department of Sociology/Archaeology. The department has 17 tenured/tenure-track faculty: 10 sociologists, 4 archaeologists, and 3 anthropologists. The Sociology Program serves 180 sociology majors, 130 sociology minors, and an interdisciplinary minor with 95 students in criminal justice as well as students in the university
general education program. The sociology program is built around a strong core of foundational courses with the expectation of close student-instructor interaction, opportunities for in-depth participation by our students in all aspects of sociological research and internship experiences.
