Williams College. The Department of Anthropology & Sociology invites applications for an anticipated position as a regular (tenure-track) assistant professor in sociology beginning July 1, 2013. The department has a unique interdisciplinary focus [see: www.williams.edu/anthsoc] that emphasizes qualitative work and theoretically and historically informed and empirically grounded analyses of major social institutions and processes. Therefore, fieldwork experience, as well as broad theoretical and substantive interests, are essential for this position. Areas of scholarly inquiry are open. However, the department is particularly interested in candidates who do work in the subfields of migration, science and technology, medical sociology, religion, or social movements, and/or whose research has a regional focus on Africa or South Asia. The Ph.D. should be in hand by the date of appointment. Four semester courses per year, a January course every other year. Salary and benefits are very competitive.
