The School of Transborder Studies (STS) at Arizona State University invites applications for an assistant professor to teach courses, pursue scholarly and applied research and provide public service and outreach on health issues among Mexican-origin and Latina/o populations from an transnational perspective. STS is an interdisciplinary academic teaching and research unit at ASU’s Tempe campus that focuses on the U.S./Mexico borderlands and seeks to endow students with the knowledge and skills to make transformative contributions to their communities and society in general.
Appointment is available as early as the Spring Semester of 2013.
Essential Functions:
1. Teach interdisciplinary courses in the area of Mexican and Latina/o health, research methods, and other undergraduate and graduate courses in the School’s curricular offerings;
2. Conduct research and engage in successful grant development in the field of Mexican-origin and Latina/o health, culture and society;
3. Contribute to the ongoing development of the School of Transborder Studies through service activities.
Required Qualifications:
1. A doctorate in medical anthropology or medical sociology or in areas in the social or behavioral sciences (such as public health) relevant to the study of Mexican-origin and Latina/o health issues;
2. Record of or evidence of potential for excellence in scholarly research in the area of Mexican/Latino health;
3. Record of or evidence of potential for excellence in teaching at the graduate or undergraduate levels.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Research focus on U.S./Mexico transborder communities;
2. Involvement with community-based research initiatives;
3. The ability to communicate with some fluency in Spanish.
4. Demonstrated potential to engage in successful grant development.
DEADLINE: September14, 2012.
