Responsibilities:
We invite candidates to apply for an Assistant/Associate Professor, Sociology (Tenure- Track) position for the 2013-2014 academic year within the department of Sociology, whose primary research and teaching interests are in the area of globalization.
You will teach:globalization with a focus on transnational social movements; introduction to sociology and social problems;the sociological imagination;AND our upper division courses on theory and methods. Course development opportunity- Based on your expertise you may :develop two new courses in the area of globalization with specialties that could include gender and development, ethnic conflict and nationalism, or international political economy. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in the Department of Sociology, and participate the unique January Term, and Collegiate Seminar (Great Books) programs. Contractual responsibilities are equivalent to seven (7) courses per year; the typical teaching load is six (6) courses and one (1) course reassigned for dedicated work with students. Faculty members at Saint Mary's are alsoexpected to engage in scholarship, serve the College on committees, advise students, and work collegially in a highly collaborative and culturally diverse environment.The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of theCollege, which is informed, animated and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian and Liberal Arts traditions.
Experience and Qualifications:
Candidates should hold a Master's degree in relevant field -psychology or other social science with comparable analytical tools; PhD highly desirable; evidence of teaching effectiveness in subject discipline, along with record of scholarly research and publication in the field; experience teaching lower division undergraduate courses.

As provided by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Saint Mary’s College of California through its Department of Public Safety, annually provides notice and makes available copies of the Annual Security Report, to the campus community, prospective students, employees and the public. Each Security Report includes statistics for the past three years concerning crimes and incidents (whether they occurred on campus, in off-campus building and property owned or controlled by the College, or on public property adjacent to campus) reported to campus security authorities. Each Security Report also provides campus policies and practices concerning security – how to report sexual assaults and other crimes, crime prevention efforts, policies/laws governing alcohol and drugs, victims’ assistance programs, student discipline, college resources, and other matters.
