Position: Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice
Classification: Tenure-track (accelerated timetable with appropriate credentials/experience)
Status: Full-time, 10 months
Description
Mars Hill College, a liberal arts college located just north of Asheville in the mountains of Western North Carolina, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to lead the development of a new baccalaureate program in Criminal Justice and serve as its coordinator.
Responsibilities
Position responsibilities include
Developing a new baccalaureate program in Criminal Justice that takes advantage of existing courses, including those that currently contribute to the Criminal Justice concentration in the colleges B.A. in Sociology
Securing faculty approval for the new Criminal Justice curriculum
Assisting the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs and Institutional Effectiveness to earn Substantive Change approval for the new Criminal Justice program from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC), the colleges regional accreditor
Teaching 12 credits, typically 4 courses, per semester in the Criminal Justice program or in the colleges interdisciplinary general education core, with substantial release time in the first year to develop the new program
Coordinating the programs annual outcomes assessment and program review procedures
Serving as the academic advisor for Criminal Justice majors
Contributing to the discipline of Criminal Justice as an active scholar
Participating in faculty governance, including serving on elected, appointed, and ad hoc committees
Collaborating with academic administrators at community colleges in Western North Carolina to develop transfer agreements for students completing associate programs in Criminal Justice
Performing other duties as assigned
Qualifications
A doctorate in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution and baccalaureate-level teaching experience are required. Experience with program development, program assessment, and academic administration are preferred.
