Salary Range: Negotiable (translation: less than you deserve, but all we can pay)
Job Description: Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor in Sociology
A Visiting Assistant Professor position in Sociology is available at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln for an ABD or new Ph.D. seeking experience in teaching and research. This is a one-year (2012-2013) position with the potential to add a summer teaching opportunity in 2013.
The successful candidate will be responsible for 2 to 4 courses per semester (negotiable FTE load) with the potential option for a partial FTE research component to work on a funded research project. The research component would require strong quantitative skills.
Due to recent success in placing our ABD and new Ph.D. graduates, we have a mix of undergraduate classes that we need to cover. While there is a range of classes that need to be covered, we would work to minimize the number of unique preparations.
Qualifications: Ph.D. (VAP) or ABD (Visiting Instructor) in Sociology at time of appointment. Commitment to excellence in teaching undergraduates in sociology.
How to Apply: Applicants should send a letter of application, CV, summary of teaching interests and experience, and contact information for three references who could speak to your teaching (and potentially research) skills. Send your application materials electronically to Dr. Dan Hoyt (dhoyt2@unl.edu). Review of applications begins May 10, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
