The Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Mississippi is seeking to hire a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology to teach at the University’s regional campus at Southaven, MS, beginning Fall of 2012. We wish to hire a Ph.D. in Sociology with specialties in race and ethnicity and/or gender. We seek someone who approaches social inequality from an intersectional perspective and who has demonstrated interest or experience with engaged community research and/or service learning. The successful candidate will teach a variety of upper level, undergraduate courses in sociology and must have an active program of scholarly research and a strong commitment to excellence in the classroom. This Visiting Assistant Professor position is housed in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at the Oxford, MS campus, but teaching responsibilities and office space are located at the DeSoto regional campus in Southaven, MS, just south of Memphis, Tennessee. Ph.D. (or advanced ABD status) is required at the time of application.
