The University of Minnesota Rochester (www.r.umn.edu) invites applications for a non-tenure track instructor position in sociology for its degree program B.S. in Health Sciences (BSHS). This position is primarily teaching-focused. The successful candidate will work with other faculty to coordinate and teach an introductory sociology course, an ethics course, and other social sciences courses as appropriate, and staff a student tutoring center in the BSHS program. BSHS courses are integrated across the curriculum and involve significant interdisciplinary components.
Duties include helping to prepare and teach primarily first-year courses, grading, staffing the Just ASK tutoring center (http://www.r.umn.edu/academics/advising/just-ask/index.htm), supervising peer tutors, facilitating department-wide data collection efforts that coincide with normal course delivery duties, collaborating with other faculty members, and other related duties as assigned.
The instructor/coordinator will join the Center for Learning Innovation (CLI). CLI leads the development of an integrated, writing-enriched curriculum for a baccalaureate degree in the health sciences. It promotes a learner-centered, competency-based learning environment in which ongoing assessment guides and monitors student learning and is the basis for data-driven research on learning.
The successful candidate has a M.A. /M.S. or Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Sociology or related field. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required. Experience in instruction at the college level would be preferable. The successful candidate works well in interdisciplinary teams and is comfortable working independently.
