The University of New Haven has an opening for a non-tenure track Lecturer in Sociology beginning fall semester 2012. We are seeking a sociologist who is a dynamic instructor to teach undergraduate sections of Contemporary Social Problems and Introduction to Sociology and a variety of graduate and undergraduate sociology electives depending on his or her specialty area. Teaching will include some online courses.
The sociologist in this role will be an important part of the Department of Psychology, which houses our Sociology offerings. We are especially interested in candidates who are capable and interested in serving as a department leader in developing online course content for new university programs, and who are willing to mentor adjunct Sociology faculty that are new to teaching courses in an online environment. In addition, we are a department that encourages the development of engaging courses that emphasize experiential education. We seek someone with proven creativity in developing new courses or innovative approaches to traditional sociology courses.
A Ph.D. in Sociology is required (ABD close to completion will be considered), as is a passion for teaching and advising students. Experience in teaching (both traditional and online sociology courses) is required. To apply, please submit the following materials to the address below: letter of application, CV, teaching portfolio (including statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching excellence, and sample documents such as course syllabi and assignments if available), and three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
