The Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Montana State University (Bozeman) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin in August 2012. We seek a new PhD or an early-career academic who (1) has substantive interests in Criminology or the Sociology of Law, (2) has a well articulated research agenda that includes a commitment to scholarly productivity, and (3) has a commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate students. Candidates from a criminology or closely related program should be comfortable working in a sociology program. The typical teaching load for research active faculty is 2 courses per semester.
Required Qualifications
1. Ph.D. in Sociology, Criminology, Criminal Justice, or closely related program by start date.
2. Evidence of an intent and ability to pursue an active research agenda.
3. Evidence of an intent and ability to pursue an active teaching agenda in Criminology or the Sociology of Law.
Preferred Qualifications
1. PhD in sociology by start date.
2. Prior independent teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
3. Prior teaching experience or interest in teaching courses on policing, courts, and corrections.
4. Ability to establish interdisciplinary research partnerships.
Screening of applicants will begin on April 30, 2012 and will continue until a suitable candidate is selected.
