The Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences invites nominations and applications for two or more positions of visiting instructor/assistant professor for AY 2012-13. Georgia Southern University (www.georgiasouthern.edu), a member institution of the University System of Georgia and a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University, is one of Georgia's premier universities. Within this setting, the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice features an interdisciplinary program that provides students with a comprehensive examination of crime, justice, and the law. Students majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice are expected to develop their knowledge of crime, deviance, and criminal justice, as well as enhance their leadership abilities, ethical consciousness, and commitment to public service. Graduates are prepared for professions within the criminal justice system, graduate school, and law school.
Position Description. Reporting to the chair of the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice, the visiting instructor/assistant professor position requires teaching and service responsibilities. Applicants should possess a master's degree or hold recent ABD status. A terminal degree is preferred. Applicants with an earned doctorate may be eligible for appointment as a visiting assistant professor. Applicants must have eighteen graduate hours in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Sociology or a closely related field. Responsibilities include teaching courses (5/5 teaching load) at the baccalaureate level and limited advising of majors. The position is a 9-month, non-tenure track appointment for AY 2012-13, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
