NINE-MONTH FACULTY APPOINTMENTS Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months. The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years. Initial faculty appointments at MSU Moorhead are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
Classification and Salary:
Assistant Professor
Commensurate with creditable experience and the Inter-Faculty Organization (IFO) Master Agreement with the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU)
Qualifications and Experience:
Required:
ABD in Sociology or Criminal Justice, PhD required for tenure.
Experience developing courses in corrections.
Demonstrated teaching excellence.
Evidence of scholarly engagement in the discipline.
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with students of diverse backgrounds, including sensitivity to their needs and concerns.
Preferred:
Completed PhD in Sociology or Criminal Justice.
Experience preparing courses in Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Research Methods, and Statistics.
Willingness to develop classes within a department of Sociology and Criminal Justice.
Willingness to develop online courses.
Responsibilities:
Teach 12 credit hours per semester.
Teaching will include classes in the corrections area (Punishment and Prison, Community Corrections) and may include Introduction to Criminal Justice, Criminology, Research Methods, and Statistics.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop criminal justice areas of interest that compliment the existing curriculum.
Other duties include providing academic and career advice for Criminal Justice majors, and service to the university and community.

Completed applications must include: signed cover letter, curriculum vitae, unofficial undergraduate and graduate transcripts (official transcripts will be required of the successful candidate), evidence of teaching effectiveness (including course syllabi and student evaluations), and current letters of recommendation and contact information from at least three references. The cover letter should directly address experience and expertise in teaching undergraduate criminal justice and sociology courses. Screening of completed applications will begin March 30, 2012 and continue until the position is filled.
