I'd rather not, since that provides people, and me especially, with a "history" of who updated what.

According to another thread there have been more than 500 jobs advertised so far. The wiki lists at least 300. Are we really going to keep reposting all of these names (or question marks) over and over again? For the love of Pete, there must be a more efficient and less tiresome method for conveying this information.
Like maybe listing one new name at a time, as suggested by the OP?

For the love of Pete, there must be a more efficient and less tiresome method for conveying this information. Like maybe listing one new name at a time, as suggested by the OP? The way it has been done in the past is that a separate area was created for reporting hires, and people then started individual threads for each department/position, leading off with announcement of whomever got the job.

If we have to do this in this cumbersome format, can people at least indicate the changes they're making (eg, bolding or highlighting the entry, or just noting the change)?

1- in the past there was a "confirmed hires" section where people started a thread for each position. The reason I did away with that is because there was inevitably a ton of overlap with the "status of hires" section. If you look at last year's forum, most threads in the hires section didn't have a name, just the usual "so, did they hire anyone?/ any updates?" questions that you get on the status of searches forum. However, if one feels strongly that there should be a forum for hires, please make your case in the meta forum.
2- If I may suggest an easier format for this here, someone registered could restart this thread, and I'd move these posts over. The registered person can then edit his/her post to include any names mentioned elsewhere in the thread, that way the first post always has the most updated information. The reason I'd rather not just delete posts is, as I said, because of history. Once something is deleted here, it is gone. This is a sensitive topic, and if I ever get a report of malicious posting or dissemination of information, it is important to be able to know if the person who added that name maliciously also added other names, etc. Besides, there is also the selfish reason that there would be a lot of extra work in making sure the posts I am deleting do not contain information that wasn't updated in the following posts. In any case, I don't see any reason why people have to keep reposting the entire list every time.

I fucking hate this format. It's hard to see who's been added to the list and makes it basically impossible to congratulate individuals who've gotten jobs (who I may know). It was better last year, when each school/hire got its own thread.

Number of seconds it takes me to read the list of names: approx 30.
I generally find this board helpful and so I try to update it when I have useful information. It makes me not want to post information when I see constant posts complaining about format or questioning the accuracy of information.
Perhaps instead of complaining people who don't like this format could take some initiative and start threads in their preferred format and see if it works any better.

There can be no doubt that this is an unwieldy format. Why not simply add a section to the TOP of the wiki titled something like "HIRES FOR 2011-2012" so that one list may be generated and updated as new information comes in? Then, at the end of the hiring season, the hired section can be moved back down to the bottom of the wiki for archiving.

Maybe we can form a committee to talk about how to organize this thread.
