Dr. Robin Högnäs will join the Department of Sociology and will be teaching undergraduate research methods in the fall, 2012. Dr. Högnäs comes to UofL from the Center for Demography and Ecology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

•Dr. Jessica Gullion joins our department as Assistant Professor of Sociology. She has been a visiting professor in our department for the past two years. Previously she was Chief Epidemiologist for Denton County, a position she held for eight years. Dr. Gullion holds the PhD in Sociology from TWU. She is a medical sociologist with expertise in qualitative research methods.

Sociology Department Welcomes New Faculty This fall, the Sociology department welcomed two new tenure-track faculty members, Dr. Catherine Corrigall-Brown, and Dr. Rachel Margolis. Professor Corrigall-Brown completed her PhD at the University of California, Irvine, after which she held a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of British Columbia. Her research focuses on social movements and political sociology. She is the author of the book Patterns of Protest: Trajectories of Participation in Social Movements (Stanford 2011), as well as many articles. Professor Margolis completed her PhD at the University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on factors throughout the lifecourse that contribute to disparities in health and well-being. Her publications have appeared in several leading journals, including Population and Development Review, and Social Science Quarterly. Welcome Catherine and Rachel!

The Department is pleased to announce the recruitment of two new faculty members. Scott N. Brooks joins us from the University of California-Riverside. He is jointly appointed as associate professor of sociology and Black Studies, tenured in sociology. Dr. Brooks’ areas of specialization are race and ethnicity; social inequality; urban sociology; the sociology of sport; and qualitative research methods. Erica Morales joins us from UCLA as a tenure-track assistant professor of sociology. Dr. Morales’ areas of specialization are race, class, and gender; sociology of education; the sociology of African Americans and Latina/os; and qualitative methods.
