Assistant/Associate Professors - Criminal Justice & Criminology - Tenure-Track (Four Positions) University of Massachusetts Lowell
The University of Massachusetts Lowell is a comprehensive university with a national reputation in areas such as science, sound recording technology, criminal justice & criminology, engineering, technology, international partnerships, and is committed to educating students for lifelong success in a diverse world and conducting research and outreach activities that sustain the economic, environmental and social health of the region and globally. Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology Faculty have expertise in a wide range of topics in criminology and criminal justice and extensive research and scholarly productivity. We offer a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Arts, and graduate level certificates in six specialized areas. Our enrollment has continued to grow and we currently have over 1200 students in our programs. The department is implementing a new Ph.D. program in Criminal Justice and Criminology in the fall 2011.
UMass Lowell offers junior faculty the option of pre-tenure sabbaticals. In addition, the department has worked diligently to provide faculty with a favorable teaching schedule and course load to maximize research and scholarly activities. We expect the faculty to produce a record of quality scholarly research. Members of the department work together on numerous joint projects in a helpful and collegial environment.
Position Description: The Department of Criminal Justice & Criminology at the University of Massachusetts Lowell seeks to fill multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor for January, 2012 or September, 2012.
Area of research specialization is open, but candidates must demonstrate a record of quality scholarship and publications in peer-reviewed journals. Associate Professor positions can potentially be hired with tenure, dependent upon qualifications. Applicants must demonstrate excellence in teaching core areas of criminal justice and criminology including Quantitative Methods, Policy, and Theory. We also invite applications from those with teaching expertise in one or more of the five concentration areas of our doctoral program: 1) Justice System and Policy; 2) Crime, Offenders, and Community; 3) Victims, Crime and Justice; 4) Global Perspectives on Crime and Justice; 5) Technology and Criminal Justice.
Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field (must have Ph.D. by the time of appt. Jan., 2012 or Sept., 2012). Experience in teaching in core areas of Criminal Justice/Criminology. Demonstrated record of quality scholarship and publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to candidates with extensive peer-reviewed journal publications and candidates with a record of obtaining external funding.
