So who here is taking a job in the middle of nowhere? What's your plan of attack for staying sane? I'm feeling some anxiety about this. Turns out a beautiful place to go to college isn't necessarily the best place for a single 30 something to move.

I think you need to define "middle of nowhere." I have a job at a college in a very rural, very small town. But it's 50 miles from a major city so I don't consider it truly in the middle of nowhere. That being said, I probably wouldn't have been excited about the job if I weren't happily coupled.

I'm coupled and I still commute 72 miles from a major city to my MON job. Spouse works in the city, and the traffic going out is better than the traffic coming in, so I suck it up. However, I did live in a MON town that was a four hour drive from a not-even-that-big city. Community involvement was a great help--being in a community theater production, taking an art class, volunteering, etc. On the other hand, I didn't have the same kind of job that I have now, so my time constraints were different. What about spending summers elsewhere?
