CFY is a national education non-profit that helps students in low-income communities, together with their teachers and families, harness the power of digital learning to improve educational outcomes.
CFY pursues this mission through the combination of its groundbreaking K-12 learning platform, PowerMyLearning.com, and its on-the-ground direct service initiative, the CFY Digital Learning Program. PowerMyLearning makes best-in-class digital learning activities easily accessible and usable to meet the full range of K-12 learning needs. It is an integral part of CFY’s Digital Learning Program which is conducted in partnership with low-income public schools to increase home technology access, extend learning beyond the classroom, and deeply engage parents in the learning process. The program provides training for teachers, students and their parents along with a free broadband-ready home computer loaded with educational software and 24×7 bilingual help desk support.
To date, CFY has served more than 40,000 families from 100 schools nationwide and has demonstrated significant impact on student achievement, student engagement, parental confidence, and broadband adoption. To extend the impact of its work even further, CFY operates an Affiliate Network of over 30 organizations in more than 20 states and theDistrict of Columbia.
CFY–NYC Overall Objectives
Serve close to 9,000 families in 75 partner middle schools by providing free home learning centers, training, and bi-lingual help desk support.
Serve close to 1,600 families in 43 partner transfer high schools by providing free laptops, training, and bi-lingual help desk support.
Provide professional development for partner teachers at each of our partner schools.
Cultivate CFY Champions at our partner schools and with our partner organizations by providing excellent customer service and high quality programming.
Maintain a positive team environment that values staff, where all staff performs with excellence at their highest potential.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Data Analyst will play a critical role in analyzing a variety of research data that is being collected to evaluate CFY’sShowcaseSchool project. This project provides on-the-ground, ongoing professional development and coaching for teachers to help them integrate digital learning activities into classroom instruction. The project analysis examines the impact of this work on student engagement, student achievement, and student teacher-directed and self-directed learning both in the classroom as well as at home. The Data Analyst will report to the Senior Manager, Education and collaborate with the Instructional Consultant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Impact Research
Lead the analysis of impact data collected by CFY-NYC on student engagement, self-directed learning, and student achievement.
Develop systems of analysis of PowerMyLearning.com usage data and draw connections between intervention and usage rates.
Import, clean, transform, validate and/or model data with the purpose of understanding and drawing conclusions on program development.
Present data in charts, graphs and tables to be shared with various stakeholders.
Help to maintain high quality working relationships with CFY’s school research partners.
Other duties as necessary
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Commitment to CFY’s goals and mission.
A master’s degree in education, psychology, sociology, economics, social work, anthropology, social policy analysis, or another quantitative social science research-related discipline (suitable for ABD candidate).
At least five years of related research experience.
Outstanding quantitative skills and at least five years of experience using SPSS (or equivalent).
Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team.
Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders and audiences.
Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse communities.
Preferred:
A PhD in education, psychology, sociology, economics, social work, anthropology, social policy analysis, or another quantitative social science research-related discipline.
Familiarity with research regarding the home learning environment and/or with digital learning preferred.
Experience with qualitative methods (focus groups).
Spanish-language fluency (both written and oral).
Experience working with the NYC Department of Education.
Experience working in the field of education.
