The Women of Color Policy Network at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU is seeking a Senior Policy Analyst to help guide our policy-advocacy efforts at the state and federal levels.
Mission: Founded in 2000 by Walter Stafford as part of the Roundtable of Institutions of People of Color, the Women of Color Policy Network at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU is the country’s only research and policy institute focusing on women of color at a nationally ranked top ten public policy school. The Network conducts original research and collects critical data on women of color that is used to inform public policy outcomes at the local, state and national levels. The Network also serves as a hub for women of color scholars, leaders and practitioners.
POSITION OVERVIEW: The Senior Policy Analyst at the Women of Color Policy Network at the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, NYU will report directly to the Executive Director and help guide policy and advocacy efforts of the Institute. S/he will be responsible for overseeing the production and dissemination of Network research and reports related to women’s economic security, with a special emphasis on women of color and single-women heads of households. S/he will also develop Network policy briefs and positions papers; monitor relevant legislation and public policies at the state and national levels; and conduct relevant research on topics of interest to the Network.
S/he will oversee and manage policy related programs of the Network and supervise policy associates and staff. The Senior Policy analyst will also oversee the development and implementation of the Network’s policy and advocacy agenda, represent the Network at conferences and convenings and work to increase the visibility and reach of our work at the local, state and federal levels.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive, self-starter with existing relationships and networks to help leverage the work and reach of the Women of Color Policy Network and the ability to build strategic alliances and partnerships.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Research and Policy Advocacy
Research and write Network reports, policy briefs, and position papers on Network priority areas
Update and revise Network policy publications as necessary;
Collect and analyze data from a broad range of data sources, including the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, state-specific data sources, and other related sources
Identify opportunities to advance the Network’s policy work at the local, state, and national levels;
Present research at conferences and to state/federal law makers;
Policy Advocacy and base building
Build and strengthen Network relationships with state and national-level organizations within priority areas
Establish and maintain contact with policymakers and legislators
Develop national policy campaigns on Network priority issues
Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement national policy agenda
Identify opportunities to advance the Network’s research and work at the local and state levels
Organize policy and report briefings with key stakeholder groups
Disseminate Network research and policy briefs to the field

Direct management of policy associates and staff
Contribute to grant reports on advocacy efforts and successes
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or Director of Research and Policy

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a proactive, self-starter with excellent writing and analytical skills. S/he should hold a master’s degree; PhD preferred in public policy, economics, political science, sociology, or related field. The candidate must have at least two years of quantitative/qualitative research experience, preferably on topics related to women’s economic security, poverty, welfare reform, workforce development, or inequalities and two-three years of experience in staff management and program development. The ideal candidate will possess a demonstrated proficiency in using Excel and SAS statistical software to summarize and analyze large data files. Strong organizational skills and ability to work well with others a must.
