Good afternoon dear community, I apologize in advance if this question is silly but for me as an international student on the job market it is super confusing: what is the difference between a lecturer, an instructor, a Faculty Professor Teaching Assistant, and a Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor. I applied to all of these positions. I understand a tenure track advertisements and visiting assistant professor advertisements. But faculty professor teaching assistant I only saw once (University of Pittsburgh) and Visiting Assistant Teaching Professor also only once (college of william and mary). I suspect this terminology might be university and department specific but I wanted to reach out you all for help. All of these positions are in sociology departments. Thank you in advance!

I think theyre all different names for roughly the same thing -- a teaching focused position. I would contact departments about the extent of stability, renewability, benefits, for all
