I have happily been in a TT job for a couple years and have everything I need to make tenure. Just getting the stability, a raise, and a place on the hook for tenure is very appealing.
However, if I go up early, would this limit my ability to move on should I continue to apply outwardly the next 2-3 years? Like, do I get tossed in the trash can if my CV says "Associate" if I apply for "Assistant" positions? I would happily take an assistant job at the right place and leave tenure much to say.
thanks

It definitely makes it harder. I interviewed for an untenured job when I had tenure and did not get it, and maybe I screwed up the interview, but maybe they thought I wouldn't be willing to move there.

I swear I interviewed for jobs as a desperate grad student they ultimately didnt think I would ever accept or show to (I would have). The fact that they interviewed you while tenured is comforting, and the sort of thing I need to hear. How much harder is just tough to calibrate. thank you for the response.
